WARNER BROTHERS
A lively 3D animation involving one of Warner Brother’s upcoming films!
CHALLENGE
To create an animation that will start before the movie “The Cat in the Hat” In both a 16x9 and 2.40:1 format!
FEEL
The feel was more bouncy and childlike, along with dynamic camera angles, helped create a contrast between cinematic and playful!
Research
When doing research, I focused on learning the style that Dr. Seuss used, a more sketchy crosshatching style. For the logo, I wanted to bring it back to the roots as a homage to the original books. From what was gathered, the use of bold, solid colors and crosshatching help to create the feel for the original books style.
Seuss-ian Sketch
My inspiration for this style comes from the coloring and shading style of Dr. Seuss. This pays a homage to the original books style, which while very loose, still has a structure to it.

New & Shiny
My inspiration for this style is more modern, going for a nice, sleek, shiny look that brings a new look to the retro colors!

Combination
In the end, it was chosen for me to combine both styles and go with the 2nd ideas animation choice.
color palette
The black, white, and red colors all help with the feel for the Cat in the Hat, as it is his main color palette. The teal helps tie into the book’s use of blue tones. What we normally see as blue is usually more of a teal, and it is normally seen as either the sky or a color fill. For the animation, it is to show the sky.

PROCESS
The process has involved multiple renditions of models and textures, mostly models! The Cat in the Hat bow used for the Warner Brothers logo went through multiple renditions before landing on the final design!

PROCESS
The texture was another tough challenge, and while the first texture did look nice, it was very bland. So, in the end, I went with the colors of the Cat in the Hat with a more detailed shading that ended up working much better in the end!

PROCESS
Creating the bow was also a struggle, as I had to make sure that it looked 3D but still have the 2D style.
